Magdalenas for Magdalena. A new chair.
The key is in the back leg. An arch that’s actually two legs but visually feels like one. Ergonomics and styles inspired by the Maye II chair but something new.
We made a prototype, then two prototypes, and the fourth one turned out well.
The first one looked good and was comfortable too.
The next two had a detail in the legs; the inverted V-shape of the back legs was too closed, and the front legs were too straight. Although the chair was comfortable, it didn’t give me a feeling of openness. It seemed a bit sophisticated and careful, somewhat snobbish. I didn’t feel like sitting in it.
The fourth one was a consensus of the first two. An average in the opening of the back leg. The front leg came from the first, and the mix of materials from the second.
We did several tests; in terms of materials, the Cienaga cord on the back works perfectly and looks great. The cabuya (sisal rope) didn’t work for the back; it’s not possible to achieve the tension over the span. However, on the seat, it provides firmness and comfort, unlike plastic, which tends to flex and not provide the same comfort.
In essence, the chair brings out its best ergonomic attributes with the cabuya on the seat and the cord on the backrest. It is also available in all the options where durability is guaranteed.
A chair for indoors or the terrace, a chair for Magdalena.
